Psychotherapy and Trauma Recovery
Psychotherapy, meaning 'soul healing' in Greek, is a powerful process of growth, resilience, and self-discovery.
Sophie's Trauma Recovery Therapy bridges the gap where mainstream psychology and counselling do not go.
Trauma-informed counselling or traditional talk therapies do not include trauma recovery therapy. Talk therapies generally focus on psychological health in a person's present thoughts and feelings and apply rational thinking to improve the situation, which will only access the conscious awareness in your mind. Talking therapies help you to clarify goals and explore your beliefs and values; however, they do not have access to the unconscious mind, where deep trauma and persistent issues are repressed and retained in the limbic system.
Research in neuroscience and epigenetics tells us that accessing the brain to heal trauma can be effective, safe, and long-lasting. By clearing one neural pathway at a time in only a few sessions, permanent change for a person can be possible.
As a psychotherapist, I use SEMI (Systemic Emotional Mind Integration) therapy to address the amygdala’s role in storing emotional memories tied to trauma and activating the brain’s survival responses, such as "fight, flight, or freeze." When trauma remains unresolved, the amygdala can become overactive, leading to heightened stress, emotional dysregulation, and hypervigilance.
Through EMI therapy, I work with the subconscious to safely release these emotional imprints, calming the amygdala’s activity and enabling clients to move from survival mode to emotional balance. This approach promotes healing and resilience without re-traumatisation, helping clients regain emotional well-being.
EMI is effective for:
- Acute Trauma: Single-event trauma such as accidents or assaults.
- Complex Trauma: Chronic or repeated trauma, including abuse or neglect.
- Intergenerational Trauma: Emotional patterns passed down through family systems.
- Emotional Dysregulation: Issues like anxiety, depression, or chronic stress rooted in unresolved trauma.
Benefits of EMI for Trauma Recovery
- Non-Invasive: Clients do not need to relive trauma in detail to achieve healing.
- Rapid Resolution: Trauma is often resolved in a few focused sessions, making it ideal for clients seeking efficient outcomes.
- Holistic Healing: EMI addresses emotional, mental, and systemic components, ensuring comprehensive recovery.
- Self-Empowerment: Clients regain control over their lives and emotions, developing resilience and independence
Clients often report:
- A sense of clarity and empowerment as they integrate fragmented parts of themselves.
- Reduced triggers and a greater ability to manage life stressors.
- Immediate relief and lightness after releasing long-held emotional burdens.
What is the difference between Psychotherapy and Counselling?
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapeutic pathways for rapid healing are person-centred and solution-focused, which get to the root of the issue once and for all.
Talking Therapies can effectively support you in coming to your solutions organically and guide you to identify obstacles and problem behaviours. However, even after many sessions of this style, a person's deeper issues are often never fully resolved.
The EMI (Emotional Mind Integration) psychotherapy approach I use is empowering and self-resourcing. By accessing the mind and the body in each session, the conflict or disturbance is resolved, leading you to let go safely and feel free to start living the life you truly desire.

Uncovering your story
Working with Sophie allows you to explore your own narrative and to reveal the parts of you that limit your freedom.
We all have a story. It’s our own unique narrative that lies at the heart of us being human.
Our story defines who we are, who we used to be and who we are becoming.
Telling our story to ourselves and others helps us to make sense of all the chaos and drama that has unfolded in our lives and is the driver for connection with others.
We share our stories of liberation, redemption, and recovery to give us hope and allow others to understand us more fully. The power lies in how we self-witness and articulate what we have been through.
Through this expression, true self-healing occurs
