When the Deeper Pattern is Seen

Last weekend I ran a workshop in Brisbane, and some of the shifts in the room were profound.

This is what I love about Family Constellation work.

People often arrive believing the problem is the relationship, the anxiety, the grief, the conflict or the feeling that they simply cannot move forward.

Then we look underneath it.

We begin to see the family loyalties, exclusions, losses and roles that may have been operating for years.

Sometimes a person suddenly recognises that what they have been carrying was never entirely theirs.

That recognition can change everything.

There were moments last weekend when the whole room became still because something had landed. A sentence. A movement. A person taking their rightful place. Something that had been held for years suddenly being seen differently.

And this is not only psychological.

The brain is constantly changing in response to experience. When we interrupt an old automatic pattern and experience something differently, we create the opportunity for new neural pathways and new responses to develop.

That is why insight alone is often not enough.

We need a different experience.

We also live in a world that has become very quick to name what people are feeling. Anxiety. Depression. ADHD. Trauma.

A diagnosis or medication can explain part of the picture, but it rarely explains the whole person. We can name anxiety, depression or trauma, but the deeper work begins when we ask what happened underneath it, what has remained unresolved, and what may still be influencing the person today.

My work asks different questions.

What happened? What has remained unresolved? What belongs to the family system? What has this person learned to carry in order to belong?

Sometimes when we understand what sits underneath the symptom, the person begins to see themselves very differently. They are no longer simply managing a label. They are beginning to understand the deeper story of their life.

My work is often rapid because we are willing to go deeply and look at what is really sitting underneath the presenting issue. When someone feels safe enough to see the deeper pattern clearly, change can sometimes happen much faster than they expected.

We are not rushing the process.

We are simply working at the level where the pattern was formed, rather than only managing what is showing up on the surface.

For many people, this work also becomes a spiritual journey back to self, often before they even realise that is what they came for.

I watched people soften over the weekend. Expressions changed. Defences dropped. There were tears, laughter, confronting moments and enormous relief.

And the work continues afterwards.

A conversation changes. A familiar trigger loses some of its power. Someone stops chasing. Someone finally understands a parent differently. Someone simply feels more settled within themselves.

We are rarely dealing only with the problem sitting in front of us.

There is usually a much bigger story underneath it.

And when that story is finally seen, something can begin to move.

The one-to-one work I do here in Mackay is already deep and powerful. In a group, Family Constellation work can go even further because we are affected not only by our own process, but by what we recognise in the work of others.

I am now planning a Mackay group workshop. If this speaks to you and you feel ready for the work, please let me know so I can begin organising dates and numbers.
