Believing in Something Bigger than Yourself when Times are Challenging

We’ve just moved through an intense Full Moon in Scorpio, and there’s often a noticeable activation that comes with this, old emotional material surfacing, self-reflection deepening, and things that have been sitting beneath awareness becoming harder to avoid. Under these kinds of lunar cycles, what is unprocessed rarely stays hidden for long.

What or who do you lean on when life becomes uncertain, when the ground feels like it’s shifting and the usual ways of making sense of things no longer hold?

This is where I see people move into familiar protective patterns. The mind tries to regain control quickly – analysing, problem-solving, searching for certainty. But there are phases in life where that approach stops working, because something in the experience is asking to be felt and moved through, not solved.

I see this often in my psychotherapy work. People reaching for answers before they are ready to arrive, trying to move through discomfort instead of staying with it long enough for something to shift internally. And yet, these are often the exact moments where change begins to happen.

I often say to clients that when things feel turbulent, you are being moved through a process that is preparing you for something you cannot yet see. There are times in life where old internal structures begin to loosen, and a different way of being is being formed underneath the surface.

There can be disorientation here, old reference points no longer feel reliable, and what comes next hasn’t formed yet. In psychotherapy, this is often where deeper integration begins, because familiar coping strategies are no longer enough on their own.

At times like this, especially under strong lunar influence, there can be a sense that life is reorganising itself in the background. What is no longer aligned begins to fall away, and something new starts to take shape, even if it is not yet visible.

There is often a sense of being part of something larger than the individual self. Some might call this life intelligence, the universe, or a deeper unfolding that moves through experience when we are no longer trying to hold everything so tightly.

When people can stay connected to something beyond their immediate thinking, whether that is trust in process, meaning, or a sense of life unfolding, they tend to move through these periods with more steadiness, even when nothing externally has resolved yet.

It reminds me of seeing a plant growing out of a pothole on a busy street on my way home from coffee with a friend this morning. No support, no ideal conditions, pressure from every direction, and still, it was growing.

It doesn’t wait for things to be right. It responds to what is here.

And there is something in that.

Because when everything feels uncertain, there is often an invitation to stop trying to control the experience and instead stay with it long enough for it to reveal its direction.

When that happens, something shifts internally first, more steadiness, less reactivity, and a greater capacity to stay present without feeling scattered. And from there, life often begins to meet you differently.

Not because it is being controlled.

But because you are no longer resisting it.
